About me

About

Hamid graduated with a BE in Electrical Engineering in 1985 from The Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY and started his career with UL, Melville, NY, USA. During his assignment in the UK, he earned his MBA from the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK.

Since graduation, Hamid has held serval engineering positions at UL’s NY office until 1993 when he was relocated to The Netherlands to manage an MoU with KEMA and to expand UL’s footprints in Europe working with European customers and partners and has held several positions as the GM and Managing Director based in in the UK, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands until 2013.

In January 2014, Hamid moved to Dubai, UAE as the VP and GM for UL MENA region. In this role, Hamid and his team are responsible for growing UL’s safety mission. His team has worked with the UAE’ s Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, EIPA and Dubai Police to introduce the safety Smart in all of UAE schools. They have conducted Anti-counterfeiting programs with EIPA, Interpol and Dubai police to ensure safe products in the country and working with key authorities in serval ME countries, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Jordan such the Civil Defense, SASO, JSMO, DEWA, ADWEA, SEC, MoH, SFDA, DCRP to ensure safe living and working environment for the residents of the countries.

In 2015, UL Middle East invested in its first Lab in the region and its largest in the world for LV Switchgear that is now accredited and recognized by local AHJ's.

In 2017 UL-Middle East signed a Joint Venture for renewables with Saudi Arabia based company GCCTL based in Dammam.

In 2020, UL expanded their Abu Dhabi Lab facility to include Fiber Optics testing of cables catering to the needs of the Utilities in the region and the EM team is expanding this to include cable fire testing and Low Voltage Cables testing.
